Health Care System
Immunizations, health screenings, and health care
professionals are all a part of the health care system.
Whenever you’ve seen a doctor for a checkup or a dentist for

General care, which includes primary care physicians.

Facilities for Health Care Services
Health Care Facilities
Communities may have more than one type of health care
facility. These facilities may offer health care as inpatient care or
outpatient care.
Health care facilities include:
Private practices.
Clinics.
Group practices.
Hospitals.
Emergency rooms.
Urgent care centers.
Lesson 2
How People Pay for Health Services
Health Care Expenses
Many families have some form of health insurance.
To maintain membership in such a plan, the insured person
pays a periodic premium, or fee, for medical coverage.
In conventional insurance plans, the insured person pays for
doctor visits out of pocket. The insurance company then
reimburses a fixed portion of the cost of the visit.
A deductible is an amount a member must pay in an out-ofpocket expense before the plan will start reimbursing for health
care services.
Lesson 2
How People Pay for Health Services
Managed Care
