About NSMF
This Faculty was founded in 1992.
There are 228 faculty staff members,
including two academicians, 31
professors and 150 associate
professors. All students of the TPU
engineering departments receive
fundamental training in physics,
mathematics, and chemistry at our
Faculty. Students of economic and
humanities enter and complete
natural science programmes. The
whole number of students is 5,000 per
one term.

Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies
This Department was opened in 2007 on
the basis of the Research and
Educational Innovation Centre
«Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies»
of TPU.
The main trends are focused on
manufacturing technologies of nano
ceramics; basic research concerning the
interaction between powerful ultra sonic
waves and nanostructured materials;
strained state of powder bodies in
density changing.
Professor Oleg L. Khasanov,
Head of Department
Spark Plasma Sintering SPS 515S (Sumitomo)
JEM 2100F (JEOL) Ion Slicer
This department deals with development and promotion of nanotechnology that at
the time claimed and actual. And is in a unique modern technology for research.
General Physics
This Department was organized
and began to operate from the
time of the Institute's opening in
October 1900. At that time its
staff numbered only two officers
– Professor A.I. Efimov and his lab
assistant V.E. Titov. Today there
are 31 teaching staff members,
Professor Ivan P. Chernov,
Head of Department
including six professors and 20
associate professors.
Bachelors are trained in Physics – 510400, and
Masters in Condensed Substance Physics –
510403.
Research is oriented towards the interaction
between radiation and matter; atomic
hydrogen and solids interaction; new energy
sources; devising materials for teaching physics
at universities.
Theoretical and Experimental Physics
The Department of Physics has
started its activity since 1900. It was
included into chemical department
together with the physical laboratory.
Our Department offers courses on
different subjects for students of the
1st–4th years of study. The overall
number of students who annually are
educated in Departmental labs
exceeds 3,000 people.
Professor Vladimir F. Pichugin,
Head of Department
Higher Mathematics
On 22 October 1900, Professor V.L. Nekrasov gave the
first lecture on higher mathematics for students of
Tomsk Institute of Technology. This is the birth date of
the Higher Mathematics Department at TPU.
Currently, there are 45 teachers on staff. Courses are
offered in Analytical Geometry and Linear Algebra;
Higher Mathematics; Mathematical
Analysis;Probability Theory and Mathematical
Statistics; and others.
Research focuses on the geometry of project
stratification; control methods of dielectric and
biological materials and articles; studying states of
Professor Konstantin P. Arefiev,
positrons and correlative effects in atoms and crystals;

formation and development of physical and
mathematical engineering education
Higher Mathematics and Mathematical Physics
This Department was opened in 1982 and there are currently 41
teaching staff members; among them seven are professors and 32
associate professors.
Since 2000, the Department started to train specialists qualified in
Mathematical Methods in Economy.
Courses are offered on Analytical Geometry and Linear Algebra;
Higher Mathematics; Differential Equations; Differential
Calculus; Mathematical Analysis; Theory of Probability and
Mathematical Statistics; Statistical Technology in Economy;
Information Technology; Many*dimensional Statistical
Technology; Economic and Statistical Modeling ; Mathematical
Professor Andrey Y.
Trifonov,
Head of Department
Physics Methods; Functional Analysis; Information Technologies
in Economy; Securities and Portfolio Management.
Research is focused on Theoretical and Mathematical Physics;
Financial Mathematics. Methodological work is oriented towards
maintaining of formation and development of
physicomathematical education at a technical university.
Hydrogen Energy and Plasma Engineering
This Department was opened to meet
demands in hi-tech specialists engaged
in power engineering and mechanical
engineering at Siberian industrial
enterprises.
Professor Valery P. Krivobokov,
Head of Department
The Department is based on Laboratory 23 in the
Research Institute of Nuclear Physics. It is
committed to preparing bachelors in Physics and
masters in PlasmaPhysics, Beam and Plasma
Technologies and Hydrogen Energy.
Research is focused on the following subject areas:
mechanisms of energy dissipation for charged
particle beams and plasma fluxes in correlation with
a solid; modeling of physicochemical surface
properties by plasma coatings; creation of high
industrial technologies for ionplasma processing of
materials and equipment.
Professional Foreign Language
This Department was founded in June 2007 as a
result of reorganization of the Institute of
Languages and Communication. There are 45
members on the staff, including seven associate
professors, 16 senior teachers, and 20 teachers.
Seven teachers have international language
certificate.
The main purpose of the Department is to
develop students' communicative skills in
foreign languages in order to facilitate their
professional communication.
