Aim
To represent the varied needs of off road cyclists in the Lake District.
Our Objectives
Promote good practice for off road cycling in the National Park
To be a point of communication between landowners, local authorities
and the off-road cycling community with a particular interest in –
Improved access for off-road cycling in the lakes
Ensuring that maintenance of Rights of Way in the National Park
considers the varied needs of off-road cyclists
Promote awareness within the cycling community on Environmental
issues
Goals
Short term –
Encourage responsible trail use
Focal point to spread best practice, safety information.
Facebook – bikers let us know of issues and we try to approach
landowners or LDNPA
Medium term –
Look for opportunities to expand specific bridleways (RoWIP etc)
Long term –
Responsible users, open access

Endorse LDNPA code of conduct
Make ourselves known to our stakeholders
Run social media pages which allow riders to air concerns and
queries regarding off-road cycling in the Lakes
Respond to the above
Medium Term
• Improve access to specific trails (Rights of Way Improvement
Plan)
• Improve communication between UK MTB Associations
• Work to affect the capabilities of a National Representative
Body
Long Term
• Project based –
– Improvements in access law to reflect the current
situation,
– Economic benefit of off-road cycling
• Equality. A more fair system that represents all user groups
• Responsible use of trails
National Picture
• A Northern steering group has been created allowing
associations to speak to each other. Southern have met
separately so far. Joint Festival planned in October at Kielder
• Modern communication
• Aims, objectives, vision and goal
• Working with Cycle Touring Club, British Cycling and UK-MTB
to find the best way to represent our needs
• Much in common with other user groups (BHS & Ramblers)
• We are non-confrontational
• Looking for the same rights as other outdoor
enthusiasts
• Legitimise what is already happening
