Who Are We?
The Psyclones: “A witty saying proves nothing.”
Who are the Clarion Psyclones?



Carrie: A General Studies major at Clarion University
with a minor in History (and possibly Psychology). She is
particularly interested in dream analysis.
Danielle: A freshman at Clarion University with a major in
Psychology. She is interested in both Industrial
Psychology and Sports Psychology.
Pam: A “non-traditional” student at Clarion. Pam has
already graduated with a BSBA and a Management major.


Psychology. She later hopes to pursue a career in the field
of Rehab Science.

Sociology/Psychology. She is interested in pursuing a
career in the field of Industrial/organizational Psychology.
Who are the WCU Psyclones?




Jason: A senior majoring in Psychology with a minor in
Special Education. Jason is interested in group
consciousness, CBT developmental disorders, ABA and
cognition.
Andrea: A senior majoring in Psychology. She is
interested in small group communications, interpersonal
communication, intercultural and gender issues, as well as
internet and computer studies.
Kevin: A Psychology Major interested in
Industrial/Organizational Psychology. He is also very
interested in computers and the internet.
Kim: A major in Psychology with a minor in Criminal
Justice. She eventually hopes to go into Forensic
Psychology in the area of profiling.
What are we developing a research
proposal about?
The Psyclones will be proposing a research study
on gender differences in small group
communication. Upon discussion, we may decide
to narrow our topic to small group communication
in online work.
Key Areas of Interest





How men and women react to one another's opinions
and suggestions. It is possible that the gender of the
speaker could influence the reaction of the listener.
The decision-making process.
Do females or males say things differently depending on
who they are talking to (male vs. female).
Non-verbal communication.
Male to female ratio within the small group.
Why have we decided to do a
proposal about this topic?
By conducting such a study, we can determine
methods of communication which would be most
task-oriented for mixed-gender groups. For the
most part, we all think this area of study is very
interesting and will be enlightening. We may also
be able to discover if online communication is
beneficial for small group work.
How will we manage our time in order
to complete the project on time?
The work has been divided into the following
components and will be worked on in this order:
Tasks

Compiling a Literature
Review
 Building a Hypotheses
 Planning Research
Methods
 Choosing Analysis Tools
 Creating a Strong
Rationale for the Research
Proposal

How will each member of our group
contribute to the proposal?
Shared leadership:
Leaders will be identified within the Psyclone team to
head-up each task and make sure we stay on schedule.
Meanwhile, the other team members will take turns
supervising our progress and posting reports on the
board. By doing this, we will keep each member
active during the development of the proposal.
* Roles described on the following slide are tentative and
therefore open to discussion.
What will be the role(s) of each individual?
Andrea: editing, drafting the research design
Carrie: editing, drafting the rationale
Danielle: drafting the variable specification
Kevin: drafting the problem statement
Jason: research, editing, WTW Charts
Pam: research
Jen: drafting the elements and sampling method
Kim: piecing and finalizing, drafting the
procedure
Dana: posting our progress reports
