Chinese being spoken.
Chinese writing symbols are all the same
across the regions.
People from different provinces in China
speak different dialects, but use the same

The Chinese worked on the Great Wall for over
1700 years.
In turn, each emperor who came to power added
pieces of the wall to protect their dynasties. But
the wall was not a solid wall.
The wall was a line of disconnected barricades.
Most of the people that were working on the wall
died while building it.

Dragons are an important part of many
Chinese festivals, including Chinese New Year.

only high peak in the Himalayan Mountains. The
Himalayas include10 of the highest peaks in the

China has two major river systems - the Yellow River
(Huang He) and the Yangtze River (Long River).
The Yangtze (Long River) is the third longest river in
the world. It is about 4000 miles long. It floods each
year and leaves fertile soil along the banks. The
Yangtze River has high banks, which keeps homes
safe from the annual flooding.
The Huang He (Yellow River) is about 3000 miles long.
It also floods each year. The banks along the Huang
He River are low. Civilization in ancient China began
along the Yellow River about 5000 years ago.
