China’s glory

the Great Wall
 Was more than 2,000 miles
long
 Was restored to protect
against northern invasion

changed under Ming
 Expelled all the Mongols
 Eliminated all foreign influence
 Banned foreign trade
 Entered a period of isolationism
○ This hurt its relationship with other
countries
○ Stopped them from learning new
technologies

to Tang and Song
 Still used the civil service
 However
emperors took more power
 Did not take all power though
 Used censors
○ Job based on exam results
○ Investigated behavior of local leaders
○ Judged quality of schools
