Groundwater is the water flows underground
when water seeps into the Earth it flows into
rivers underground. Over 50% of the United
States population depends on groundwater
for drinking water. Groundwater is also one
of our most important sources of water for
irrigation. Unfortunately, groundwater is
susceptible to pollutants.
Groundwater contamination occurs when
man-made products such as gasoline, oil,
road salts and chemicals get into the
groundwater and cause it to become unsafe
and unfit for human use. Over 50% of the
United States population depends on
groundwater for drinking water. Groundwater
is also one of our most important sources of
water for irrigation. Unfortunately,
groundwater is susceptible to pollutants.
This is a picture of how ground water works!
Ground water flows into our rivers, lakes, and oceans. If you pour chemicals on
your lawn it pollutes the ground water and that water runs into our bodies of
water which is what we drink.
There are many ways we can help like using
native plants and natural fertilizers, Don’t
over water lawns and gardens, recycle used
motor oil and use nontoxic household
products when ever possible.
