Welcome to the USA!
“America! Who has seen you once,
will never forget”
Jack London
The USA is the fourth largest country in the world in
size and population.
The USA is placed in the
middle of the North
American continent and
washed by the Atlantic Ocean
in the east and the Pacific
Ocean in the west. It has an
area 9400000 square
kilometers and is twice as
large as all the countries of
Europe combined. In the USA
live 290 million people. The
capital of the USA is
Washington,D.C.(District of
Columbia)
The USA consists of fifty states. The largest state is
Alaska. Hawaii is one of the smallest states.
Along the Atlantic Coast the land is flat, inland from the coast
there are the Appalachian Mountains. In the middle of the continent
there is the great Mississippi River. The Mississippi is one of the
longest rivers in the world. The north-western part of the USA
includes five lakes.
The main rivers are the Mississippi, the Missouri, the
Colorado and the Ohio.
The capital of the USA is Washington. It is situated
on the Potomac River not far from the Atlantic coast.
Wasington is not a very large city. New York, Los
Angeles, Chicago, Houston , Philadelphia, Detroit, New
Orleans are larger.
 The capital of the United States of
America was founded in 1791 in the
District of Columbia. The capital
received the name of Washington —
after the name of the commander-inchief of the American army in the War
for Independence who became the first
President of the United States.
 New York is one of the largest
cities in the world. Its population
is over 11 million people. New
York is an industrial and cultural
centre of the country. Most
business is centered in Manhattan
Island. The whole area is very
small, that's why the sky-scrapers
were invented in New York and,
especially, in Wall Street.
