the United States
 2. Dartmouth College v. Woodward
 a. Ruled that the charter of Dartmouth
College in New Hampshire was a private
contract and protected by the constitution
 b. Private businesses gained new protection
and this helped promote capitalism
 3. Gibbons v. Ogden
 a. Ruled steamboat travel between two
states was interstate commerce, so only the
fed. govt. could regulate it
 b. The govt. of New York could not grant a
steamboat company a monopoly
