music’. This is in fact just one era of what may be more correctly
termed ‘Western Art Music’
Create a timeline, starting with the Baroque era and continuing
into the 20th Century, delineating the various eras of Western
Art Music
Include a summary of each era, noting significant developments
in compositional style, leading composers, and the influence of
technology on instruments and their repertoire.
Going Further



Investigate the life of one composer. Explore their life
and works within the context of the historical, cultural
and social forces that shaped their existence.
Examine how they built on the works of their
predecessors, and in turn created a legacy that was
emulated by their successors. What makes this
individual’s contribution to music worthy of study
decades or even centuries later?
Present your findings within a PowerPoint display, and
include audio selections of their musical works that
demonstrate their ingenuity and influence.
