Disputes About Boundaries
The United States claimed that the American
territory extended at least to the Sabine River and
possibly included Texas.
Spain claimed that the eastern boundary was a line
from the Arroyo Hondo to the Calcasieu River in
Louisiana.
In 1819, the United States and Spain signed the
Adam-Onis Treaty
Spain gave Florida to the United States and agreed
that the Sabine River was the eastern most part of
Texas.
In return, the United States gave up all claims to
Texas. Spain now owned Texas.
