Circulatory, Respiratory, &
Excretory Systems
Bellwork – 3/16/15
List the components of whole blood.
1. Circulatory System
A. Blood
1. Plasma- 90% H2O
2. Cells
a. White blood cells- immunity
b. Red blood cells- carry O2 & CO2;
hemoglobin carries the molecules
c. Platelets- for clotting

What parts of your body make up the
circulatory system?
• Blood
• Blood vessels
• Heart
B. Blood Vessels
1. Arteries- carry blood AWAY from the
heart
2. Veins- carry blood back to the heart
3. Capillaries- smallest vessels; where
O2, CO2 , nutrients and waste move in
or out of the blood.
C. The Human Heart
1. 4 Chambers
a. Atria/atrium- small chambers on the
top of the heart; collect blood as it
enters
b. Ventricles- large chambers on the
bottom of the heart; pump blood out
of the heart
2. Valves- one way doors; make the
sound of the heartbeat
1. Respiratory System
A. Function: To supply oxygen to all the
parts of your body. It accomplishes this
through breathing: inhaling oxygen-rich
air and exhaling air filled with carbon
dioxide, which is a waste gas.
2. Respiratory System
A. Trachea: tube from nose and mouth to
lungs
B. Lungs
1. Bronchi- the 2 branches of the lungs
2. Bronchioles- smaller branches in each
lung
3. Alveoli- small sacks surrounded by
capillaries; gas exchange happens
here
3. Excretory System
A. Function: Maintains homeostasis by
getting rid of waste.
B. Organs
1. Lungs- eliminate CO2
2. Skin- eliminates H2O, salts and
urea by sweating
3. Kidneys- remove waste from
blood, maintain pH, regulate H2O
content
Dialysis
