Introduction
• The battle of bull run was the first major
conflict of the American Civil War.
• The battle of bull run was the only battle
that civilians can and watched.
• The battle lasted five hours and changed
peoples thoughts that the war would not
last long.
The Union
• The North called the battle, bull run
because that was the name of the creek
where it was fought.
• The union army consisted of 28,000
Troops.
• The union planned to attack the south's
flank.
The Confederacy
• The South called the battle First Manassas,
because it was fought near Manassas, Virginia.
• The South planned to attack the unions left
flank, but then realized the unions plan and built
up enough troops on the right to over run right
flank.
• In a counter attack the confederates did the
rebel yell that they became famous for.
• The confederate army consisted of 33,000
troops.
Union General Irvin McDowell
• Led the union troops of Northeastern
Virginia to bull run where he planned a
diversionary attack.
• In the battle McDowell thought that it was
going to be a fast victory.
• After the battle McDowell retired to the
Washington defense.

3,000 Union troops die at bull run.
General Jackson gets the name stonewall.
The North knows that the war is not going
to be short.
