The Concept of Role Play
It is a teaching strategy and a method of education
and training where the participants express and
act real/unreal behaviors in safe artificial
situations individually and collectively to
understand lessons ,discover and develop
constructive abilities ,desires and attitudes,
promote virtues such as cooperation and
responsibility and change or modify undesirable
behaviors and curricula.

The characteristics of role-playing Strategy :
1-Provide opportunities for self-expression, and emotions.
2-Increase motivations and interests among students in their lessons.
3-Students gain valuable trends and modification of behavior to help
them to show good behaviors in emergency situations that could be
subjected to .
4-Assist in the development of students thinking and analysis.
5-Bring the spirit of fun and vitality to the educational situations.
6-Help with the discovery of talents and capacities.
7-Strengthen the student sense of others, take into account their
feelings and respect their ideas.
8-Contribute to the solution of psychological problems of students,
and help them express themselves without the fear of the public.
9- Contribute to the development of the curricula.

for Using Role Play
There are principles and guidelines should teachers pay attention to
when
using the role play model as follows :
1-Choose the appropriate methodology for role play.
2-Don’t force a student to act a certain role .
3- Prepare the environment and the roles.
4-Define the role of each student and what is required of
him.
5-Give brief explanation about topics of scenes and
roles.
6-Determine the time of the scene as well as time to
answer questions or dialogue which follow the scene.
7-Compel the audience to be quiet and not to comment.

8-Don’t interfere during playing roles .
9- Scenario to be short and focused.
10-Ask each actor to play role honestly .
11-Stop the role-playing at time when the solutions
being clear.

13-Stand or sit in an appropriate place.
14-Give students a chance to evaluate each other on
the basis of group work.

Types of Role Play :
1- Restricted role play which is based on dialogue and
conversation in the lessons .
2-Role Play based on the non-talk show: story or theme.
3-Free role play (non-restricted text or dialogue):
This is where students act and express the roles using
their special styles according to the planned role .
