Explain what happens to animal
cells when they are put in
really salty water.
 Water diffuses out of the cell and the cell
shrivels up.

 Water diffuses into the cell, if too much water
moves in the cell will burst.

Salt water crabs have the same proportion of salt
in their cells as the water that they live in.
Considering this, what would happen to the cells of
a crab if you put it in fresh water. Why?
It’s cells would burst because water would keep moving in.
What would happen to a fresh
water fish if you put it in
salt water, why?
If you put a freshwater fish in
salt water, its cells would lose
water and shrivel because the
water has more salt than it’s
cells.
Whatj happens to your cells
when you go to a movie and eat
popcorn?
 Your cells get thirsty.
 More water is inside the cells than in your
bloodstream and the water goes from this
high concentration to the low in the
bloodstream, leaving your cells with less
water and they get thirsty.
 You then go to the concessions for a drink.
 Ahhhhh, smart of the theatre!!!
What happens to your cells
after you get your drink?

so the water moves back into your cells.
