7. What happens to plant cells
when they are put in really
salty water?
 Water diffuses out of the cell and the central
vacuole shrinks.
8. Explain what happens to
animal cells when they are put
in really salty water.
 Water diffuses out of the cell and the cell
shrivels up.
9. What happens to plant cells
that are put in fresh water.
 Water diffuses into the cell and fills up the
central vacuole.
10. Explain what happens when
animal cells are put in fresh
water.
 Water diffuses into the cell, if too much water
moves in the cell will burst.
11. Why don’t plant cells burst
if a lot of water diffuses into
them?
 Their cell wall keeps it from bursting.
12. Salt water crabs have the same proportion of
salt in their cells as the water that they live in.
Considering this, what would happen to the cells of
a crab if you put it in fresh water. Why?
It’s cells would burst because water would keep moving in.
13. What would happen to a
fresh water fish if you put it
in salt water, why?
If you put a freshwater fish in
salt water, its cells would lose
water and shrivel because the
water has more salt than it’s
cells.
14. What happens to your cells
when you go to a movie and eat
popcorn?
 Your cells get thirsty.
 More water is inside the cells than in your
bloodstream and the water goes from this
high concentration to the low in the
bloodstream, leaving your cells with less
water and they get thirsty.
 You then go to the concessions for a drink.
 Ahhhhh, smart of the theatre!!!
15. What happens to your cells
after you get your drink?
Your cells have less water than your bloodstream
so the water moves back into your cells.
Have you ever had this happen?
16. How is this patch helping
sea sickness?
17. How are nicotine patches
supposed to help smokers to
stop smoking.
