Political parties-organizations that promote
certain beliefs and sponsor candidates
 Countries have different systems

 Cuba,
China= 1 party system
 Italy=multiparty system-3 or more parties
 US=2 party system



number of senators and representatives

Candidates and Campaigning



In order to raise $ and support for elections
candidates must CAMPAIGN
PAC’s political action committees-give $ to
candidates that support cause, donors, or own $,
public $
People from the political party volunteer and
hold rallies to get support for candidate, educate
the public, and encourage people to vote-this is
known as GRASSROOTS EFFORTS
Propaganda
Candidates use propaganda-ideas spread
to influence public
 There are several types of propaganda

propaganda poster-must color


 BANDWAGON-everyone else is doing it so

 GLITTERING GENERALITIES-general

 NAME CALLING-call person a name
 SYMBOLS-use a symbol that pep like such
as flag

JUST PLAIN FOLKS-try to make pep think
you’re just like them-show candidates
eating @ McDonalds
 ENDORSEMENT-use a famous person to
back you or your ideas

4.2-Voting
To vote one must be 18, registered, a
citizen, and resident of county, not a felony
serving time, not registered in any other
county or state
 One can register online, go to local officesWIC, Medicaid, employment security
commission, DMV, mail in-high school,
libraries
 Deadline to register is 25 days before the
election


Must vote at POLLING PLACES-schools, churches,
town halls, etc.
Where you vote is determined by voting districtdetermines what candidates may vote for and precinctarea you have been assigned to vote in
BALLOT-lists candidates up for election
County Board of elections-handles elections
At large elections-vote for candidate from whole
area/district-vote for candidate just for that district

 PROTEST-marches, sit ins, strikes
 Lobbyists-work for interest groups and
seek out lawmakers to try to get laws
changed that will favor issue

