for Expository Non-Fiction
Expository Non-Fiction
• Expository Non-fiction is used to explain,
describe, give information or inform. The
creator of an expository text can not assume that
the reader or listener has prior knowledge or
prior understanding of the topic that is being
discussed.
• Expository Non-Fiction might be an essay, an
explanation, an exploration of a concept.
Purpose of Expository Nonfiction
The purpose of expository nonfiction is to give
facts about:
– what something is
– who someone is
– what something means
– how something works
– why something is important
• The facts are often organized by presenting
MAIN IDEA supported by DETAILS.
• Often opinions are included to emphasize the
importance of the MAIN IDEA
