WHAT IS THE
SOLUTION TO
THE ARABISRAELI
CONFLICT IN
PALESTINE ?
7 Types of
Propaganda:
How is it used
to influence
minds?
› Ideas or
statements that
are often false or
exaggerated and
that are spread in
order to help a
cause, a political
leader, a
government, etc.
The spreading of ideas,
information, or rumor
for the purpose of
helping or injuring an
institution, a cause, or
a person.
…ideas, facts, or
allegations spread
deliberately to
further one's
cause or to
damage an
opposing cause;
also : a public
action having such
an effect.
PROPAGANDA
TECHNIQUES
A propaganda
technique is an
improper appeal to
emotion used for the
purpose of swaying
the opinions of an
audience.
The following
propaganda
techniques are
common:
1. BANDWAGON
This technique involves
encouraging people to
think or act in some way
simply because other
people are doing so.
 Recycle what would go
into the garbage or
waste basket and join
your friends and
neighbors in saving our
world.
2. LOADED WORDS
using words that have
strong emotions:
examples: peace, war,
patriotism, freedom,
hunger, and love.
Love is a very special
feeling, and people
who care deeply
should share an iced
mocha today.
3. TESTIMONIAL
Using an expert or
celebrity to sell or
support.
 Film star Kellen Lutz
says that when it
comes to animals,
you should adopt
and save a homeless
dog or cat.
4. NAME CALLING
Saying bad things about
your competitor.
 People who oppose
the funding for a new
family recreation
center are simply
stubborn and narrow
minded.
5. PLAIN FOLKS
Using ordinary people or
trying to sound ordinary
to sell something or
persuade you to vote or
support an idea
 The American Red Cross
helps people like you
and me when disaster
strikes. Have you made
your donation?
6. GLITTERING GENERALITIES
Employ vague, sweeping statements
(often slogans or simple
catchphrases) using language
associated with values and beliefs
deeply held by the audience without
providing supporting information or
reason. They appeal to such notions
as honor, glory, love of country,
desire for peace, freedom, and
family values.
 Red Queen is the most powerful
and moving book ever published
for young adult readers.
7. TRANSFER
A technique used to carry over
the authority and approval of
something we respect and
revere to something the
propagandist would have us
accept. Propagandists often
employ symbols (e.g., waving
the flag) to stir our emotions
and win our approval.
HOW WILL YOU
BE EXPECTED TO
USE
PROPAGANDA?
You are to create a
poster that will
portray ideas
related to the
Israeli –
Palestinian conflict
in SWAsia.
1. Your poster will consist of 2 parts:
A. Propaganda from either from the
Israeli perspective/point of view or
the Palestinian perspective/point of
view, and
B. a solution to the problem.
2. On your poster, you must
write/illustrate information about the
Israeli opinion of who should control the
land or from the Palestinian opinion of
who should control the land.
This information must provide textual
information/evidence from the sources
provided in class.
At least three Issue Points must be
addressed
 Final Status of Jerusalem,
 Permanent Borders/Statehood,
 Right of Return for Palestinian
Refugees,
 Access to Water, and
 Security Issues.
At least one other issue must be
addressed:
 Status of Israeli Settlements or
 Compensation for Lost Property.
3. Determine a possible solution for one
of your issues.
 Create a resolution that could help
solve conflicts between the two
opposing groups.
 The resolution should be placed at
the bottom of the poster.
4. Provide
descriptions, textual
evidence, and
illustrations to
convince the United
Nations to follow
your resolution for
the issue in your
resolution.
Your poster should not simply be a political
cartoon, it should convey information to
convince others of your point of view.
Yes, you should think of the 7 types of
Propaganda as you create your poster, but
they must contain accurate information, so
think how you can use one of the types for
each point you make.
Your poster must contain color
Your poster must be neat and well planned out
Your poster must contain proper spelling,
grammar, punctuation, and use of capital letters.
If it is a proper noun, it must be capitalized.
Your name and period should go on the back in
the upper right hand corner. Failure to place your
name in the correct position will cost you 5 points.
