NORTH CAMPUS EMERGENCY
RESPONSE (DEFINED)
EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCEDURES
SCENARIOS
Emergency Response at the
Campus will be situational.
Two campus responses:
Evacuation
Securing the Campus
Evacuations will generally be
utilized for Emergencies such as
Bomb Threats, Fires, and Power
Outages. Maybe localized to one
building.
Securing the Campus will be
generally utilized in the event of an
ongoing violent incident on/near the
campus property. Will occur
Globally across the north campus
community and surrounding
buildings.
Evacuate the building immediately using the following steps:
Leave the building by the nearest marked exit route
Alert other people to evacuate as you leave
Close all doors to your classrooms, offices, or labs
once you are sure that no one is remaining inside.
Lock if possible.
High Security areas such as the Business Office and
Computer labs will be locked by departmental
personnel as they evacuate.
Assist injured or disabled persons in evacuating the
building. See specific instructions regarding assisting
others below.
Never use or attempt to use elevators. Elevators are
programmed to go to the first floor in event of fire
alarm activation. If you board an elevator it may stop
on the floor where the fire is.
Follow all instructions given by Employees, Administrators,
and Security Personnel.
If the area is smoke-filled, stay low to the floor and
proceed to the exit. Remember, in a smoke-filled room
or hallway, the freshest air is near the floor.
Once outside, proceed to designated assembly
areas unless directed differently.

or surrounding areas.
Assist in assuring that no one re-enters the buildings
until the “All Clear” is given by the Campus President,
Security, or designee.
Be familiar with building evacuation routes including
the nearest exits.
Plant Service Workers and Deans report to security to
assist.
Move them safely away from the fire and out of the building.
To assist a visually impaired person out of the building, sighted guide
should offer his/her arm so that the visually impaired person can hold
the elbow and follow.
If disabled persons confined to wheel chairs or persons injured
are unable to evacuate, assist the person to the nearest
designated area of refuge. The designated area of refuge is
located in stairwells and may have a panic button and a fire
rating to enable them to remain until emergency rescue
personnel arrive to provide assistance.
