Transcript When & where the religious leader was

To start looking at religious leaders.
To do this by starting a group project.
You are
communicating…
As a whole class you need to match the religious leader, to their
religion & to that religion’s Holy Book.
Your homework from last lesson should help you – get it out now.
The Bible
The Qur’an
The Torah
You are communicating
& working with
others…
You need to work in small groups.
Each small group needs to nominate a scribe (somebody to do the
writing) & a team leader (to make sure that everybody is working
hard).
After this activity has been explained we will go back to the game we
just played as you will need the information from that activity for this
activity.
Each small group will be given one of the three religions to think about:
Judaism – Islam – Christianity
In your groups you need to write a paragraph introducing the religion
that your group has been given.
You need to include all of the information that you already know (use
the information that you found out for homework to help you). Most
importantly, you need to make sure that you include the information
that we just looked at, about who the religious leader is & what the
Holy Book is.
You have a time limit to complete your paragraph.
You are communicating, working
with others & improving your own
learning & performance…
Can we put together the paragraphs that you wrote (taking the best
bits from all of them!) to make a class version of the 3 paragraphs so
that we have an introduction to the 3 religions?
Christianity
Islam
Judaism
Copy these paragraphs into your exercise books.
You are communicating, working with
others, problem solving & using ICT…
Have you ever seen the television programme, ‘This is your life’?
We’re going to watch 3 minutes of a clip from when Simon Cowell was on
‘This is your life’:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyzegJgFTfy
What is the programme ‘This is your life’ about?
What is the format of the programme?
What types of things are included in the programme?
Your challenge is:
Make a red book from ‘This is your life’,
for one of the 3 religious leaders…
Jesus – from the religion Christianity
Abraham – from the religion Judaism
Muhammad – from the religion Islam
Please remember…
If you choose the religious leader Muhammad you cannot draw any
pictures of him – Muslims do not allow pictures of Muhammad.
If you choose Abraham you cannot write the word ‘God’ in your red book
– Jews believe that God’s name is so holy that they do not write it in full,
instead they write G_d.
How are you going to do this challenge?
You’re going to work in small groups.
You’re going to choose one of the religious leaders to present.
You’re going to use the internet to complete research about this
religious leader.
You’re going to make a red book like the ones from ‘This is your life’
about your religious leader.
What do you need to include?
In your ‘This is your life’ book you will need to include:
When & where the religious leader was born?
Where the religious leader lived?
What the religious leader did during their life?
People who were important to the religious leader
What the religious leader believed in & whether they were powerful?
Where & how the religious leader died?
How much time have you got?
oYou have today’s lesson to start the research.
oThen you have 2 more lessons to finish your challenge.
oAfter that we will evaluate your challenge as a class.
In your own words, in the back of your books, write down what you
have to do in this challenge.
Don’t put any of your own ideas down yet, just stick to writing down
what I’ve just told you, in your own words.
In this challenge we have to…

To do well in football you need to play by the ‘Fair Play Rules’.
These mean that:
All members of the team consider each other.
All members of the team play for each other (it’s a team effort!)
People don’t foul each other.
It’s the team that will do well (or not!) not individual members.
The team plays to it’s strengths.
All team members work hard for each other.
What do the fair play rules mean
for us in our classroom today?
Now…
 You need to start working on your challenge.
 Today’s lesson should be spent planning how to do the challenge &
starting the research.
 It may help to make a list as a small group to decide:
1. What you want to do
2. Who’s going to do what
3. When they need to do it by
What can you now tell us
about the 3 religious
leaders that we have
looked at in today’s
lesson?
At the start of the lesson
we said that our aims were…
To start looking at
religious leaders
To do this by starting a
group project
What skills have you been
using as you started your
group project?
Discuss as a group…
What do you need to do for today’s homework?
What would be helpful to have done by next lesson?
Is there anything you could be getting on with at home?
Is there anything you need to bring in from home?
Decide on your homework as a group & write it in your planners.
