Acceptance of internal experiences in gastrointestinal and cardiovascular
disease compared to healthy individuals in Isfahan city

Abstract
Psychosomatic disorder are group of psychiatric in witch
psychological factors play an important role in creating and
exacerbating of medical conditions. The most important category of
psychosomatic disorders is cardiovascular (CV) and gastrointestinal
(GI) diseases. The present study aimed to compare the acceptance of
internal experiences in patients with cardiovascular, gastrointestinal
and healthy individuals in Isfahan. Therefore, 50 patients with
gastrointestinal diseases, 50 patients with cardiovascular that
referred to psychosomatic clinics and offices of related physicians
and 50 healthy individuals were selected based on convenience
sampling method. Action and Acceptance Questionnaire (AAQ-II)
were administered in three groups. The data were analyzed by
Multivariable Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) and t- test for
independent samples. The result showed that there were significant
differences in all subscales of AAQ-II between patient groups (GI
and CV) and healthy individuals. But there were no significant
differences between GI and CV patients. This study showed that
denial of internal experience play an important role in disorders,
including cardiovascular and gastrointestinal disease.

Introduction
Psychosomatic disorder are group of diseases
such
as
cardiovascular
(CV)
and
gastrointestinal (GI) diseases
in witch
psychological factors play an important role in
creating and exacerbating of medical
conditions (1). Cardiovascular disease and
gastrointestinal disease because of daily
concerne and physical symptoms related with
the disease avoid more than other people of te
stimuli that cause these symptoms.Those who
accept their negative experiences and not avoid
it less likely stressful experiences in the area of
mental health are related damage (2).
Methods
In this prospective cohort study 50 patients
with gastrointestinal diseases, 50 patients with
cardiovascular that referred to psychosomatic
clinics and offices of related physicians and 50
healthy individuals were selected based on
convenience sampling method.

According to the Tukey test there is significant differences in acceptance of internal experiences
between healthy individuals and patients with gastrointestinal and cardiovascular disease (P<0/01).
