Other considerations
You must think about your own constraints when you are
designing your set, however it is vital that you communicate
with other people involved in the production.
As the set designer, you will need to take into account the
needs of other people for different reasons.
The producer finances the show.
They will plan the budget for the
set and they will know what types
of theatres the show will be going
to.

Other considerations
The costume designer will talk
to the set and lighting designers
to ensure the costumes, set and
lighting all complement each
other on the stage.
The lighting designer will work with
the set designer to ensure the sets
look good. If the set is minimal then
most of the design elements might
be created by this person.

Reading the script
When planning a set, the first thing you should do is read the
script, as many have directions. A notoriously difficult play to
stage is A Doll’s House by Ibsen.
How could you design this set? How can you
ensure that the audience sees everything, and that
the actors have enough space to move around?
