Hearing Ears
A strategy that focuses on 4 literacy
areas
(technical language; listening skills;
spelling; sentence /paragraph
construction)
as well as developing memory skills
In the centre of your page draw a face
with exaggerated ears – leave space on
the left, right, top and bottom of the face.
Put your pen down and close
your eyes
* 7 terms that have been used during the
topic/lesson will be spoken out aloud to
you.
* When you are told to pick up your pen,
you are to write those 7 words down in
the order they were given to you on the
left hand side of your face.
“Are you ready?
Have you thought of a strategy to remember the terms you will
hear and the correct order in which you will hear them.
Here are the terms.”

How successful were you in
correctly listing the terms and
spelling them accurately?
Underneath your face write the strategy
you used to help you with this listening
and memory activity.
Share your strategy with a neighbour –
if they have a different strategy write it
down on your sheet (as well as their
name)
In the space on top of your face
Select 3 (or 4) words from the list and
1. Write a paragraph that includes these words
( an opportunity to show that you understand
the meaning of the words and how they are
linked)
OR
2. Write separate sentences for each word.
