Synonym
• A word that means
the same as another
word.
• Ex: cold and chilly
Antonym
• A word that means
the opposite of
another word.
• Ex: hot and cold
Prefix
• A letter or group of
letters that comes at the
beginning of a word that
changes the meaning of the
word it is added to.
• Ex: re + use = reuse
Suffix
• A letter or group of
letters added to the end
of the word that changes
the meaning of the word it
is added to.
• Ex: use + ful = useful
Homonym
• Two or more words spelled
and pronounced alike but
have different meanings.
• Ex: bear – the animal

in spelling.
