WHY A COMMON CORE
REPORT CARD?
IN ORDER TO ALIGN IT WITH WHAT WE ARE
TEACHING.
CREATING A CC REPORT CARD
• Look at your old one
• Look others schools’ report cards (public/private) and
most likely your local public school
• Use the DOE website
https://learningconnection.doe.in.gov/Standards/PrintLi
brary.aspx
• Common core aligned with their quarterly targets
• Use specific verbiage for measurable assessment
• Delineate individual skills-do not have 2 skills assessed as
one
• Keep it concise and understandable for the parents.
HOW TO FIND THE COMMON CORE
• Go to
https://learningconnection.doe.in.gov/Standards/Pr
intLibrary.aspx
• Or www.doe.in.gov, in bottom right hand corner
under trending click on common core
WHAT WE CHOSE
• For Work Habits and Social Skills, we chose skills that
were observable and not as subjective.
• We aligned the learning goals for each quarter with
the PARCC quarterly learning targets.
• Skills were left off the report card if they no longer
were aligned with the Common Core Standardssuch as personal knowledge-recite address, phone
number, birthday, tie shoes
REPORTING SCALE
Due to our report card having skills mainly based on
mastery, we use
o S=Satisfactory (%77 or higher)
o I=Improvement Needed (76% or lower)
o Blank Box-Skill has not yet been evaluated
*Percentages based on Archdiocesan Grade Scale
ASSESSING THE SKILLS
• Skill assessed with paper/pencil or tests
• A lot of the math skills are done this way for us because we
have Go Math a common core aligned program
• In Language Arts it is mostly listening comprehension.
• Most skills are assessed individually
FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT
• Throughout the quarters we are assessing and
recording on tables kept as a grade book.
• Some tables are one skill only, others are multiple
skills for Language Arts or Math.
• We then can cut the rows apart and create flexible
groups for differentiated instruction during Daily Five
and Math.

SPECIFIC REPORT CARD INFORMATION
FOR PARENTS
• Each quarter we send home an “insert” with more
specific information such as which letters are they
still working on for identification, sounds, High
Frequency, number identification and blending to
read word families.
• Our High Frequency Word List is based on the
Learning Connection recommended list found here.
Cabinet/ViewFileDetail.aspx?lfid=21491
• We teach all of the ones on this list in addition to the
ones in our basal series.
