• Basal Cell Carcinoma are uncontrollable
growths within cells of the stratum basale in
the epidermis
• It is mainly caused by exposure of the sun
Other Implications on Rest of Skin
• Other implications include…
– Sores
– Bumps
 Most of these other implications are nonaggressive, however occasionally some may cause
the destruction of tissues
What Are Some Symptoms?
• Symptoms include…
– Open sores
– Reddish Patches of Skin
– Shiny bumps or nodules
– Scar-like area
 These are also the signs that one has this
condition
Who’s Affected?
• Anyone can get it; however those with fairer
skin are more at risk, as are older people. Also,
anyone who visits tanning booths or doesn’t
apply sunscreen are at risk as well.
Prevention
• Follow important sun safety rules and avoid
tanning booths. Also it is a good idea to
examine your skin every so often.
Treatment
• In order to treat basal cell carcinoma one can
get laser therapy, radiation therapy, topical
chemotherapy, or Moh’s Surgery, which is a
special type of surgery specifically designed
for skin cancer, where the doctor removes one
layer of skin at a time until the tumors are
removed.

• Affects 1 million Americans each year
• It is the most common skin cancer (75% of all
skin cancers)
• It has a 95% cure rate
