ABOUT CONTACT DERMATITIS
• Beings as itching, redness, and swelling of the
skin.
• May eventually start to blister.
• Caused by exposure of the skin to chemicals.
•
Example: Poison Ivy
• Can provoke allergic responses in sensitive
individuals.
Psoriasis causes cells to build up rapidly on the
surface of the skin, forming thick silvery scales
and itchy, dry, red patches that are
sometimes painful.
Experts believe that psoriasis occurs when
the immune system overreacts, causing
inflammation and flaking of skin.
Things that can cause these flare-ups include
a cold and dry climate, infections, stress,
and dry skin.
When psoriasis is moderate or severe, the skin
gets inflamed with raised red areas topped
with loose, silvery, scaling skin.
If psoriasis is severe, the skin becomes itchy
and tender.
Most cases of psoriasis are mild, and
treatment begins with skin care. Which
includes keeping skin moist with lotion
BURNS
•
A BURN is tissue damage and cell death caused by intense heat, electricity, UV radiation,
or certain chemicals such as acid.
•
There are 3 main classifications of burns: 1 st, 2nd, and 3rd degree
- 1st Degree: Only epidermis is damaged. Area of burn becomes red. Ex: Sunburn
- 2nd Degree: Involves injury to the epidermis & the upper region of the dermis. Skin is
red, painful, & blisters appear.
- 3rd Degree: Destroy entire thickness of skin. Burned areas appear blanched (graywhite) due to nerve endings being destroyed.
•
Burns are considered critical if….
1. Over 25% of the body has 2 nd degree burns
2. Over 10% of the body has 3 rd degree burns
3. There are 3rd degree burns on the face, hands, or feet

epidermis
• Look like open sores and
patches, pink growths, shiny
bumps or scars

other parts of the body and
becomes threatening
• Caused by cumulative UV

exposure
• There are 2.8 million BCC
diagnosed in the US each year
