Proposals to
Deliver Planned Care
at Cannock Chase Hospital
What we will cover
• Overview of the current position and why we need
to change
• Planned Care at Cannock Chase Hospital – our
proposal
• Proposed timeline for specialty transfer
How things are now
• An increasing demand on inpatient beds at New Cross
• Continuing uncertainty for patients arising from:
•
Delays in admission from the Emergency Department
•
Moves between wards
•
Delays in discharge
•
Cancellation of operations
•
Delays in having your operation, once you’re admitted
•
And, sometimes we don’t get it right leading to poor care and experience
• An opportunity to change how services are delivered when RWT
acquires Cannock Chase Hospital
How we developed proposals
• Senior doctors at RWT have led the process
• We have listened to patients either formally and
informally
• We have looked at clinical models that
work well in other parts of the country
and abroad
• Using Cannock Chase Hospital to benefit
the patients of Wolverhampton

Creating the right environment
to deliver services
It is important to us that the clinical environment meets the same standards as
that in the rest of RWT. As part of the transfer of services from MSFT, RWT has
been able to get some funding from the Department of Health to refurbish and
remodel the facilities at Cannock Chase Hospital including:
•
•
•
•
•
Building a new Endoscopy Unit
Creating a Musculoskeletal Unit for rheumatology patients
Refurbishing the inpatient and day case Wards
Refurbishing the outpatient areas
Building some new theatres
What are the benefits?
• More certainty over the date of your procedure
• A better experience for all patients
• Improved quality of clinical services and health outcomes
• Keeping local services safe - a clinically and operationally
sustainable service model
• Treatment in an improved environment
• More effective use of public resources
