1
The Moon is the Earth’s closest neighbour.
The Moon is made out of rock.
The Moon doesn’t give out light.
The reasons why we can see it at night is because it
reflects the light from the Sun.
The Moon orbits the Earth.
It takes the Moon 1 month to travel around the Earth.
Meteorites hit the Moon
and make craters on it.
One side of the Moon is very, very bumpy.
We have never seen that side.
There is no wind or rain on the Moon.
2
Neil Armstrong was the first person to land on the Moon.
The other people with Armstrong were Michael Collins and
Buzz Aldrin and they landed on the Moon in 1969.
The spacecraft was called Apollo 11.
Astronauts can float in space because there is no
gravity.
Astronauts wear spacesuits to help them breathe
and to protect their skin.
It takes an astronaut 45 minutes to put on a spacesuit.
3
Jupiter has 63 moons.
Mercury and Venus don’t have any moons.
4
Once upon a time there were 9 planets.
These were
Mercury,
Venus,
Earth,
Mars,
Jupiter,
Saturn,
Uranus,
Neptune
and Pluto.
But now there are only 8 planets.
Pluto is a dwarf planet.
5
Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun
and that makes it the hottest planet.
The clouds on Venus are poisonous.
The Earth travels around the Sun. It takes the Earth
1 year to do this.
Around the Earth is the Ozone Layer and it protects the Earth
from the Sun’s rays.
Mars is very, very cold.
Mars is the only planet that we have
sent a robot to.
There is no life on Mars.
Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are made of metal and rock.
6
Jupiter is the largest planet is the solar system.
It is so big that it can fit all the planets inside it.
Saturn has rings around it.
The rings are made of icy rock.
Some are the size of a house and some are the
size of a grain of sand.
Uranus
Neptune is the furthest planet away from the Sun.
It is very cold and very dark.
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are made of
gas and liquid.
7
The Sun is a star.
It is a big ball of fiery gas.
It gives us light and heat.

These are large holes on the surface of the Moon.
Gravity is a force.
These are large rocks that float in space.
When an object travels around something else.
A rocket that goes into space.

Have you ever wondered how many moons has Jupiter?
Have you ever wondered why we can see the moon at night?
Did you know that Pluto is no longer a planet?
Find out all you ever wanted to know about space in this
book.
