Kaviza Client End User Quick Start Manual

Setting up the end user access device
This document provides step-by-step instructions on how to set
up the Kaviza Java Client on your access device for easy
access to Kaviza virtual desktops.
The last few slides provide useful tips to resize the screen
settings and perform ctrl-alt-del operations on the virtual
desktop.

Preparing the Windows clients
Windows based end point checklist
Verify or install JAVA (JRE version 1.4 or greater
Download from: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Verify or install RDP 6.0 or greater (mstsc.exe) for RDP
Verify or install Citrix Online Plug-in (version 11.0 or greater) for
HDX (Latest version V12.0.3 recommended for best performance)
Download Location for Citrix Online plug-in 12.0.3.6:

Setup Kaviza Client: Windows
Open a Firefox browser session
Enter URL: http://[kMGR address]/dt/kavizaclient.jnlp
You’ll see:
Check the “Do this automatically..”
Click “OK”
Setup Kaviza client: Windows <cont>
Next you will see a Kaviza login
screen
Enter your userid and password
You will then be logged into your
desktop

Right click on the desktop to
popup the desktop menu
Select “New” and
Select “Shortcut”

“Create Shortcut” dialog pops
up
Click on “Browse…” button
Navigate to the folder where
“javaws” executable is
located.
Default location on JRE1.6 is
C:\Program Files\java\jre6\bin
Do NOT click on “Next>” yet.
Enter the text
http://[kMGR address]/dt/kavizaclient.jnlp on
the same entry right after
“javaws.exe”.
Creating Kaviza Client shortcut: Windows <cont>
Click “Next>”
Type a name for the shortcut.
Click “Finish”
The shortcut is created on the
desktop with the default java
icon.
Download the Kaviza Client
icon from:
http://[kMGR address]/dt/kavizaclient.ico
Right click on the shortcut
and select “Properties”
Click on “Change Icon..”

Navigate to the location
containing the
kavizaclient.ico file that you
just downloaded.
Click “OK”.
The shortcut will be shown on
the desktop as follows.
Preparing Linux clients
Unix or Linux end point checklist
Verify pre-installed Java version
Run from shell window: java -version
Install open source RDP client for Unix/Linux --rdesktop client
1.3.1 or greater
Download from: http://www.rdesktop.org
Install Citrix Online Plug-in (version 11.1)
Download Location:
http://www.citrix.com/English/SS/downloads/details.asp?downloadID=3323

Setup Kaviza Client: Linux
Enter the following URL on the command line shell
– javaws http://IP_addr_of_KvzServer/dt/kavizaclient.jnlp
Select “open with” and click
“Browse”

Select javaws and
click Open
Setup Kaviza Client: Linux <cont>
Check the “Do this
automatically ..”
Click “OK”
Setup Kaviza client: Linux <cont>
You’ll get a security warning.
Check “Always trust …”
Click Run
You’ll get a 2nd security
warning.
Check “Always trust …”
Click Yes

Next you will see a Kaviza login
screen
Enter your userid and password
You will then be logged into your
desktop

Right click on the desktop to
popup the desktop menu
Select “Create Launcher”
Fill in “Name” and “Generic
Name” entries with “Kaviza”
or any shortcut name of your
choice.
Click “Browser…” to select
the “javaws” binary from the
JRE/bin directory.
Do not click on “OK” yet.

Enter the text
http://[kMGR address/dt/kavizaclient.jnlp
on the same “Command” entry
right after “javaws.exe” as an
argument to the “javaws”
executable.
Download the Kaviza Client
icon from
http://[kMGR address/dt/kavizaclient.ico
Click on “No icon” and
browse to the location
containing the
kavizaclient.ico file that you
just downloaded.
Click “OK” to close the dialog.

Navigate to the location
containing the
kavizaclient.ico file that you
just downloaded.
Click “OK”.
The shortcut will be shown on
the desktop as follows.
Preparing Mac clients
Mac OS X endpoint checklist (Leopard v10.5, Snow Leopard v10.6)
Verify pre-installed Java version
Run from shell window: java -version
Install RDP client for Mac OS X (Version 2.0.1 is the latest)
Download from:

Install Citrix Online Plug-in (version 11.0)

Setup Kaviza Client: Mac OS X
Go to Applications/Utilities
and open AppleScript Editor
In the AppleScript editor
window type the command as
shown in the screen shot.

In AppleScript Editor go to
“File/Save As”.
Select “Application” for File
Format and save your Kaviza
shortcut to the desktop.
Setup Kaviza Client: MAC <cont>
Double click the shortcut that
you just created to launch
the Kaviza Client
You’ll get a security warning.
Click on “Allow”
You’ll be asked to accept
the certificate
Click on “Trust”

Next you will see a Kaviza
login screen
Enter your userid and
password
You will then be logged into
your desktop

Adjust to full screen mode (HDX): Windows
Click on Shift+F2 to get you
into full screen mode
Clicking on Shift+F2 will also
show you the desktop
window.
Click the Citrix Plug-in icon
on the top left most corner
Select “Resize Session”
Pick the required Session
Display Mode as shown.
Adjust to full screen mode (HDX): Linux
Click the Citrix Plug-in icon on the
top left most corner
Select Advanced -> Full Screen
You can go back to the window
mode by entering Alt+F3
