Who should remain in the Core 4 Curriculum?
• Students who have at least a 2.0 GPA by midterm of their 10th grade
year. C average or above, no D’s or F’s
• If a student’s GPA isn’t a 2.0 now, the chance of them bringing their
GPA up while taking harder courses in the 11th and 12th grade are very
slim.
• Students whose major requires a 4 year degree and their EXPLORE OR
PLAN scores predicted at least a 20 on their ACT

Core Four Exemption Conference Request
New Diploma Options
After the student has attended high school for a minimum of two years, the student and
the student’s parent or legal guardian may request that the student be exempt from
completing the Louisiana Core Four Curriculum and be placed in the Louisiana Basic Core
Curriculum. (Bulletin 741: 2318)
What is the difference?
The Louisiana Core Four Curriculum prepares students
for entrance to a four-year university in the State of
Louisiana. The Basic Core Curriculum would prepare
them for a community college or technical school in
the State of Louisiana.
Students who “Opt Out” of the LA Core 4 Curriculum
will also be required to fulfill their elective credits in a
Career Area of Concentration which will be determined
at the Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) conference.
The student’s IGP would be revised at the conference
to fit with the updated diploma option.

Individual Graduation Plans
According to the Career Options Law, every student must
have an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) on file at the school.
The plan is initiated in 8th grade and will be updated each
year.
The IGP shall be signed by the student and parent or legal
guardian each year.
The IGP reflects the curriculum pathway and the
recommended sequence of elective courses.
The IGP is flexible, yet sufficiently structured, to ensure that a
student will meet the high school requirements for admission
to a postsecondary education institution or enter the
workforce.
