self-sufficient and included a social structure of their
own…
 The feudal system was designed, like many social
structures, on a pyramid
The King
 The Nobles/Lords
 The Knights
 The Peasants/Serfs

has one knight and three peasants.
 Each one of you will play a role as we go through
class.
Roles
 King: makes the rules, collects taxes
 Lord/Noble: follow King’s rules, keep manor
noise to a minimum, keep manor clean, serve
as a tutor, collect papers at the end of the
period, do anything asked by King, pay taxes
 Knight: follow King’s rules, follow Lord’s rules,
enforce the rules, do anything asked by King or
Lord, pay taxes

rules, do whatever is asked by Lord or King, get
supplies, pay taxes
