Description of Honors

Honors is a local designation given to courses that offer a more rigorous
and in-depth curriculum designed to challenge advanced students in
preparation for secondary opportunities. The course expectations are
higher and will include higher level thinking and critical problem solving.
Standardized tests, teacher recommendations, and historical grades are
used as guiding references when considering placement of students in
these challenging courses:

Honors ELA 9th Grade Lit/Comp

Description of Accelerated





The only “Accelerated” courses offered in high school are in the area of
mathematics and are designed to cover more curriculum at an advanced
pace within a school year to ensure that students have the opportunity to
take an AP course as their 4th year option.
Accelerated Coordinated Algebra (9th grade) – covers the full year of
Coordinate Algebra standards and first semester of Analytical Geometry
standards.
Accelerated Analytical Geometry (10th grade) – covers 2nd semester of
Analytical Geometry standards and the full year of Advanced Algebra
standards.
Accelerated Pre-Calculus (11th grade) – covers the full year of Precalculus as designed by the state standards.
AP Calculus and/or AP Statistics are offered as a 4th year math course.
Description of

AP designation, the course must be audited by the College Board to
ensure that it satisfies the AP curriculum.
