Cross Country, Boys’ Swimming, Boys’ and Girls’ Tennis,
Girls and Boys’ Lacrosse, Field Hockey, Boys’ & Girls’
Indoor Track, and Girls’ Basketball
Five Regional Champions: Field Hockey, Boys’ Tennis,
Boys’ Indoor Track, and Boys’ and Girls’ Lacrosse.
Four State Champions: Boys’ Tennis, Field Hockey, Boys’

District: Three Marketing Education students won
top honors at the district level (regional) leadership
conference – earning a trip to State Competition.
State: Western had two students score in the top
20% each earning a Certificate of Merit.

Accomplishments 2007 - 08


ACE TEAM: Jefferson District Regular Season
Champions, Region II Champions, and 6th place in
the State Tournament.
Destination Imagination: 2 DI Teams.
– One of the teams placed 1st in their challenge at
the regional level. The remaining team placed
2nd in their challenge at the regional level.
– The regional winner placed 1st at the State and
moved to Globals; placed 28th in Global
Competition.

8% more A’s and B’s During 07-08
9% fewer D’s and F’s During 07-08
Second Semester failures were cut in half
(12% - 6%) During 07-08
We reached the AYP Goal of achieving the minimum
benchmark level no matter the number of students.
We reduced the total number of classroom Standard/Practical
Discipline Referrals by 16%
Using AYP measurable objectives and county guidelines to
evaluate individual tests, WAHS IEP students went from
passing 5/11 in 2007 to passing 10/11 in 2008.

for Academic Excellence



WAHS is one of only 10 high schools in the
Commonwealth to receive this recognition.
WAHS met all state and federal achievement
benchmarks for at least two consecutive years.
The Virginia Index of Performance (VIP Award) also
recognizes achievement in enrollment in collegelevel classes, attainment of advanced diplomas,
career and industry certifications, and the nutrition
and physical activity scorecard.
