Sample Course Descriptions
English 1 World Literature and Composition
Students will explore themes found in a variety of cultures to uncover universal themes. Composition will explore how universal themes are developed in essay and
expository forms.
World History & Geography
Students will explore world cultures and historical development of world governments and the influences of the geography of the regions. Further consideration will
be given to exploring the choices made by leaders in understanding how leaders consider value.
Physics
Students will participate in a practical and experimental program of physical science. Program will include specific lab experiences to understand how physics help us
understand phenomena in our universe.
World Language 1
Students will participate in understanding and developing beginning level proficiency with Spanish or Chinese language and cultures.
Health, Wellness & Fitness
Students will develop an understanding of the importance of healthy choices and the influence of our friends (and our influence on friends) in maintaining health and
wellness while developing a fitness routine that will support health & wellness. – Developed by the ASU School of Nursing and Behavior Innovation
Geometry or Algebra 1
Students will explore the principals of mathematics and mathematical thinking in either a geometry or algebra course. Emphasis will be on developing mathematical
understanding of concepts along with the ability to explain how to apply the underlying concepts in new problems.
9th Grade Capstone - Philosophy 1 Leadership & Value
How do leaders determine value? How can I add value to my communities? This is a mini-dissertation project for students to provide an introduction to philosophy
through the exploration of essential questions of value and leadership. Students conduct a basic literature review of philosophies and write an essay to describe their
responses to the essential questions. In addition, students will propose a research service project to apply during the second semester. Their findings from this
project will be presented in a formal paper and oral presentation and question/answer program.
