A: They wanted reform and tried to persuade
European rulers to accept their ideas. These
rulers had the power to effect change.
2) During this time, why did change occur
slowly for most Europeans?
A: Most Europeans were peasants living in
rural villages and not part of the courtly or
middle class culture where changes were
occuring.

Enlightenment thinkers said a just
society should ensure justice and
happiness.This was not true of the
old system based on divine-right
and class structure.
