• Also known as nerve tissue.
• Conduction of electrical
impulses
• 98% located in brain and
spinal cord
• Two Types of Cells
1. Neurons
• Neurons- over 1 m in length;
unable to divide.
• Conducts electrical impulses
from one region to another.
• Has a cell body- soma with
nucleus and organelles.

• Extending from soma are branching
processes-dendrites- receive
information, usually from other
neurons.
• Also from the soma is a single axon
that carry information to synaptic
terminals.
• Synaptic terminals make contact
with other cells.
