Does music have stronger positive
or negative effects on the human
brain?

Why I chose my topic
• I have a passion for music. I have always
listened to it, and for me it has always had a
positive effect on me. I listen to music almost
everyday and I want to see how other people
feel about music.
Research I found
• Brain determines pitch of sound/ breaks it
down while multitasking
• Neurons in brain all connected
• Info enters brain; Neurons provide feedback
• Music triggers both sides of brain
• Increases memory
Research I found

•
Intensifies emotion
Happy music – Calm/Excited
Sad music – Negative/upsetting feelings
Adele & Michael Jackson differences
Improves concentration
Research I found
• Listening to music while working causes a
person to feel relaxed
• Instruments, tempo, voice, melody affect
emotion
• Fast and upbeat songs tend to be more happy
• Speed and mood affects attention span and
block out distractions
Research I found
• Ruin hearing
• Harder time learning
• Angry music can lead to headaches
Link between Research and Product
• My research was based on how music affects
people and their minds, so I gave out quizzes
to students to see how well they did and
compared it to the music they listened to.
My Product
Mentor

• Family friend for a long
time
Successes and
Obstacles
• I was able to complete my paper, turn it in and
pass.
• Talking to strangers
• Learning to plan
• Hated the Yola site
• Junior paper was a struggle
• Teacher didn’t help much.
What I learned about myself
• I learned that as long as I put forth the effort
to work, I can get anything accomplished. I
also learned that I have pretty good time
management skills. The most important
though is that I need to keep my schedule
planned out or I wont be able to get anything
accomplished.
