Chapter 1
Respond to the statements:
agree, disagree, or unsure
Suffering and death are evils we must
fight against
Human sinfulness is the ultimate cause
of suffering in the world
God sends specific forms of suffering to
specific people for a reason
I often wonder why God doesn’t stop my
suffering or the suffering of those I love
If our faith is strong enough we can
eradicate worldwide suffering

experience associated with being alive.
To suffer means to “endure death,

Natures was of telling us

We feel pain because we have…
A central nervous
system-a brain and
spinal cord
A peripheral nervous
system-a network of
fibers known as
nerves leading to
individual nerve
cells called neurons.
Neurons allow us to see, taste, feel, smell, and hear

which there is no suffering or death

No pain No gain!
The reality of humanity tells us
otherwise
Pain is needed for a happy human life
Pain is good
Suffering is, in fact guaranteed
for anyone
who takes on the task of loving.
Persons who love will suffer,
but they will also
find a fullness of life
and a personal experience
of the Spirit’s presence.
What are your reactions to “No
Greater Love” from page 15?
Suffering and Faith
Some begin to doubt
While others find strength in faith
Jesus Suffered
Suffering does not separate us from
God.
We do not suffer alone
Suffering should not destroy us or
defeat the possibility of eternal
happiness in God’s kingdom.
