Reasons Behind the War
• Japan: wanted to expand their empire west into
Asia and east into the Pacific (thought they were
“god’s chosen people”)
• Germany: Hitler rebuilt Germany after WWI and
Treaty of Versailles into military power and
wanted to create an empire ruled by the “chosen
people”/Aryans
• Allies entered war as result of the above two
countries (America wanted nothing to do with
war at first (isolationism))
Outcomes of the War
• Allies win
• Axis Powers destroyed
• Cold War starts between USA and Soviet Union
(proliferation of nuclear weapons)
• Adolf Hitler commits suicide on April 30, 1945
