Although Germany became a republic
(democracy) after World War I, it was a new
form of government for the country and it
wasn’t very successful.

Many Germans lost their

and starvation.

(Nazi) Party gained
support and Hitler
was elected as
Chancellor of

Once elected as
Chancellor he unified the
positions of President and
Chancellor and became
the Furher (Leader)
Took control of all matters:
social, economic, political,
military, and culture.
Freedom of speech, the
press, and assembly
suspended.
Communications were no
longer private.
