The Weimar Republic
• Food was scarce and money was virtually
worthless (economic depression).
• Germany was weak after WWI (Treaty of
Versailles).
• Germans no longer trusted their government.
Domain-Specific Vocabulary
1. Fascism: a form of government based upon dictatorship;
total control of society by the government.
2. Nazi: German National Socialist Party; gained control of
Germany in 1933 under the leadership of Adolf Hitler.
3. Adolf Hitler: (1889-1945) Co-founded the Nazi Party in
Germany, and gained control of the country as chancellor
in 1933. Started World War II with the invasion of Poland.
He was responsible for the Holocaust.
4. Scapegoat: a person or group made to take the blame for
others or to suffer in their place.
5. Mein Kampf: My Struggle; book written by Hitler that
described how he would take over Germany and
eliminate the Jews.
