Hitler had already begun to take land
but he didn’t want to take land that
would make the Soviet Union go to war
with Germany.
Non-Aggression

So, Hitler signed a non-aggression
treaty with Stalin. They agreed to not
go to war with each other.
Why did the Soviet Union sign
the treaty?

The army didn’t feel ready to fight
ANOTHER war. They were hurt VERY
badly during WWI.

treaty with Stalin.
July 27, 1941- Hitler invaded the Soviet
Union
The Soviet Union joined the Allies
The Soviet Union lost millions
of soldiers

BUT they were able
to defeat the
Germans in the
Battle of
Stalingrad in 1942.




But American and
British troops
stopped them.
By 1943 the Allies were
winning the war

On May 8, 1945 Germany surrendered
and Hitler shot and killed himself.
