Which countries had camps ?
• Many Countries had Camps including
Germany, Canada, USA, United Kingdom,
Japan, Italy, New Zealand and others.
Were men and women in the same
camps?
• Lots of camps were single sex but there
were some with mixed men and women.
• Yes some children did go to the camps not
all were with parents.
Did soldiers escape ?
• Some soldiers tried to escape by digging
tunnels. The most famous attempted has
been made into a film called The Great
Escape.
How were the prisoners treated ?
• In some camps prisoners were treated
fairly but in some German Concentration
camps the conditions were very bad.
• There was little food and they were sent to
the gas chambers and KILLED !!
• Soldiers ran the camps. Adolf Hitler had a
special unit called the SS. These were
NASTY people who were very CRUEL!!
Have the camps been destroyed ?
Most camps have been destroyed, you can
visit them because they have been made
into museums where they can remember
the people who died .
Do we still have camps here today?
• We don’t have camps like they used to be
in the war times but we do have places
where prisoners are taken from other
countries .
