Parts of an Animal Cell
• Golgi body
• Rough Endoplasmic
reticulum (E.R.)
• Smooth E.R.
• Ribosomes
• Mitochondria
• Vacuole
• Nucleus
• Cell membrane
• Cytoplasm
Animal Cells: What the Parts do
• Ribosomes help make protiens
• Mitochondria change food into a form the cell
can use for energy (ATP)
• The vacuole stores water and nutrients, and may
help digest food
• The nucleus directs activities and stores
information
• The cell membrane holds the cell together and
lets things go in and out
• Cytoplasm is jelly-like substance in a cell
Plant Cell Parts

Cytoplasm
Big vacuole
Cell membrane
• Cell wall
• Chloroplast
Plant Cells: What the Parts do
• All of the organelles in the animal cell and
the plant cell function the same way in
both
• The cell wall protects the cell
• Chloroplast is used for photosynthesis
Differences
•
•
•
•
• Plant cells
Have a cell wall
Have chloroplast
Color is green
Have a bigger
vacuole
•
•
•
•
• Animal cells
Don’t have a cell
wall
Don’t have
cloroplast
Color is peach (or
your skin color)
Have a smaller
vacuole
Other Facts About Cells
• Cell is the smallest part of our body
• All cells need energy
• Cells have limit to how big or small they
get
