A pat on the back can go a long way.
When you feel a level of appreciation about what
you're doing, that's only going to inspire you to work
harder because you know you aren't going to be left
behind.
There's the potential for some pretty major
innovations to take place around work, particularly if
you're the one coming up with them.
Some of your ideas might be out there, but they can
be effective.
This might help you catch the notice of those up
above, and they might look for your input on things
more frequently in the future.
“ Should We Believe the Story of the Stars?”
Astrology Vs. Astronomy
Speaker:
Naveen Nanjundappa
Vice President,
Bangalore Astronomical Society
It is the study of how events on earth
correspond to the positions and movements of
astronomical bodies, particularly the sun,
moons, planets, and stars.
Astrologers believe that the position of
astronomical bodies at the exact moment of a
person's birth and the subsequent movements
of the bodies reflect that person's character
and destiny.

By Horoscopes (Kundali)
 Map the position of astronomical bodies at
certain times, such as when a person is
born
 12 Houses/Rasi and 9 planets
 Each planet represents basic human
drives.
 Each sign represents a set of human
characteristics.
The particulars required for casting a horoscope are:
•

•
Date of birth
Time of birth and
Longitude and Latitude of the place of birth
Mars in

Sun in Aquarius
Moon in

Mercury in

This is the basis of Kundali… it records the position of celestial

As human being gathered capacity to wonder
at, and indulge in certain amount of
speculation …...
 The regularity of appearance and
disappearance of these objects should have
impressed them.
 the sequence of day and night, and the
obvious connection of the sun
 the periodic waxing and waning of the
moon
 the unchanging character of the stellar
vault
 No wonder that all ancient civilisations possess
proto-astronomy in one form or other.





Primitive societies noticed that the hunting
seasons changed along with the periodic
change in the night sky. Animals and birds
migrated with seasons…
Soon primitive agriculture settlements
emerged
In agricultural societies sowing and other
operations depended on climatic changes or
the seasons.
The seasons arrived with appearance of
certain groups of stars and changed with the
arrival of others.
In lower Egypt the
periodical
overflowing of the
Nile was noticed to
have some
connection with
the heliacal rising
of Sirius.

Naturally, a little amount of superstition
could be expected at this stage because
many phenomena lacked physical
explanations

They thought all these heavenly bodies
must have supernatural powers.

Yet, nobody thought in those days that a
person’s future could be predicted from
planetary positions.
The positions of stars relative to the sun
"predict" the agricultural seasons.
 The positions of stars can be used to tell time at
night.
 The Babylonians and Egyptians early
developed techniques for doing this.

Strongly connected to
polytheism, in which the
planets viewed as gods or
goddesses
 Typically the predictions
were for whole societies
or their rulers, rather
than individuals




Perhaps around 150 AD in the court of
Western Kshatapa Rudadaaman in Ujjayini, a
Greek manuscript of an astrological text
composed in Egypt around 100 AD was
translated into Sanskrit.
The text refereed to as Yavaneshwara, the
names and concepts related to predictive
astrology were sanskritised.
This Yavana Jataka incorporated EgyptioGreek astrology into Indian
astronomy/astrology.
Aryabhata, tallest personality in
ancient Indian astronomy (~ 450
AD) has no reference to
Astrology in his work.
He seeks no supernatural
powers to explain natural
(celestial) events like Eclipse.
In his work he explains how Solar eclipse occur due to obstruction by
moon. He does not even refer to the Puranic myth of Ragu and Ketu.
..But then why India is plagued by astrology?



Astronomers began to parade themselves
as astrologers…
Even famous astronomers like
Varahamihira, Bhramagupta, Baskara –II
were astrologers as well as astronomers
Even in West astronomers like Kepler were
astrologers…

Today the sun is in Pisces
from March 5 to April 10.

But modern astrology
columns still give its
location 2000 years ago,
February 19 to March 20.
Indian Astrological Events

Winter/summer solstices coincide with beginning
of Makara (=Capricorn) (uttarayana) and Kataka
(=Cancer) (dakshinayana)

Actual Utarayana is ~ December 22 but in
Indian astrology it is January 14

And Dakshinayana is ~ June 22 but is
actually July 16th

Thus modern newspaper astrology
columns are about one sign (a month)
off from where the sun actually is!
So you've been reading the wrong sign
for years!
Astrologers who adjust for this seem to
have no better success than those who
don't.

Indian Astrology is Earth centered,
epicycle based astrology. Ucham and
Neecham is the high and low point of
the planets as they go in epicycle.

Live life with honesty and integrity.

believes in discipline.


We can perform a mental experiment using economics. Astrologers should be
rich. If the know anything about the future they would have an edge. But this
is not the case.

Assuming that Vedic astrologers like to make money, they seem not to profit
from their own craft. If they could predict the future even in a vague way,
they would be rich by playing the futures or the stock market. But as
astrologers they get most of their income from by doing charts.

In 1971 the Survey Research Center of University of California sampled 1000
adults in the bay area, getting their birthdates and their claimed attributes.
The astrology did not correlate any better than chance.

The Australian Skeptics in 1982 collected newspaper horoscopes and found
they even disagreed with each other and did not have much consistency.

Believing in things that prove not true hurts the creditably of new age
movements. It is best to experiment before believing.

Have you ever considered using asteroids which are much closer than the
Pluto to be included in a chart system? Problem is there are billions of them.
Astrology is filled with a lot of cracks!
Much potential for financial gain and
accomplishments.
 Strong personal desires and needs
 Self centered, but capable of hiding it from others
though aware of it.
 The number one will spend time and money to satisfy
material needs.
 Possesses great inner strength can overcome any
weakness in self.
 Has administrative and executive abilities and skills.
 Very good leadership capabilities.
