Cellular Guided Tours
Plant and Animal Cells
Join Us For Amazing Tours
Of:
Animal Cells
Plant Cells
The Shrink-O-Matic®
makes you the size of a
glucose molecule, so you
see an actual cell, not
those cheap models used
by other companies
Overview of Tour:
On the next few pages you will find:
An overview of the various organelles
encountered during the tour
The function of each organelle
A photograph or drawing of each organelle*
A joke about each organelle
*Not all organelles have a picture (some are camera-shy) (the lysosomes threatened to digest our staff
photographer if he took photos of them)
The Nucleus:
The nucleus stores
genetic information
and synthesizes DNA
and RNA.
He’s got the DNA (Do
Nothing Attitude), so
he makes other
organelles do the
work.
Electron Micrograph
Cell Membrane:
The Cell Membrane defines the cell
boundary and regulates the passage of
molecules into and out of the cell.
If you’re not sweet, he’ll call for the white
blood cells!
Ribosomes:
Ribosomes are
responsible for
protein synthesis in
cells.
When you start to go
bald, these are the
guys to blame!
Endoplasmic Reticulum:
The E. R. is
responsible for
synthesis and/or
modification of
proteins and other
substances. Then
they transport these
substances by
vesicle formation.
Also known as Mr.
Fix It.
Lysosomes:*
The Lysosomes* are responsible for
digesting complex macromolecules into
simpler substances. They also digest
other organelles, which helps keep the
cell healthy.
Keep your distance or he’ll eat you, too!
*No pictures of lysosomes are available (our contract with them requires that we keep their names and records
anonymous)
Golgi Body:*
The Golgi Body*
processes,
packages, and
distributes proteins
and lipids.
Don’t approach him
unless you’re
postmarked for “out
of area”.
*Also known as Golgi Complex, Golgi apparatus, and Stack of
Pancakes (don’t say that last one to them unless you want to
get shipped off to the large intestine)
Chloroplasts:*
The Chloroplasts use
photosynthesis to
create food for cells.
Wear your
sunglasses!
*Plant cell tours only
Cell Wall:*
Supports and
protects cell.
Like his cousin in
China, this guy
keeps invaders out!
*Plant cell tours only
Mitochondria:
Mitochondria convert
food into energy the
cell can use; in other
words, they convert
one form of energy to
another.
Has the same
function as those
cans on the
telephone poles.
