Man Made Rocks vs. Natural
Occurring Rock Formation
• The difference between man made and
natural occurring rock is that man made is
something done by man. We made it the way
it seems. Mount Rushmore is man made
because it wasn't naturally formed. Naturally
occurring happens by flood, weathering
,deposition, and etc. It happens naturally, no
one touched it. It is organic being that Earth
created the formation itself.
Mount Rushmore
(man made rock formation)
• Made to attract tourist to South Dakota.
• Man made formations are often made to
demonstrate historical importance (Mt.
Rushmore is of previous United States
presidents).

How do natural rocks form?
• Igneous rocks form when magma (molten rock
deep within the earth) cools and hardens.
• Sedimentary rocks form when the sediment
accumulates in layers and over a long period of
time hardens into rock.
• Metamorphic rocks form when under the surface
of the earth from the metamorphosis (change)
that occurs due to intense heat and pressure
(squeezing).

Tsingy de Bemaraha
(natural rock structure)
• Located close to the western coast of Madagascar
• landscape of sharp limestone pinnacles called tsingy: limestone is
sedimentary rock
• The spectacular canyon of the Manambolo river and rolling hills cut
through the tsingy creating a diverse landscape
• The undisturbed forests, lakes and mangrove swamps of the national park
are the habitat for rare and endangered lemurs and birds.

Bungle Bungle Range
(natural rock structure)
• Located in Australia
• The range rises up to 578 meters (1896 feet) above sea level and consists
of distinctive sandstone domes striped with alternating orange and grey
bands.
• The banding of the domes are due to differences in clay content and
porosity of the sandstone layers
• Sedimentary rock classification
