FOUNDED
Date the park was founded & why:
 Mount Rainier national park became a national park on March 2,
1899 it was the forth national park designated by Congress.
 Mount Rainier became a park after : Yellowstone National Park
(1872) , Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park (1890), and
Yosemite National Park (1890).
 Mount Rainier had been supported by many petitions,
newspapers, and other thing to request that it be made into a
national park because of it great beauty and mountain.
ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
 The park is having some air pollution issues. Some nitrogen
deposition is effecting the lichen community. The impact is that
now the amount lichen is going away because of the polluted air
effects. A study done by PREVENT (Pacific Northwest Regional
Visibility Experiment Using Natural Tracers) found that sulfur
contributes to reduced visibility which is the weather and
smoke.
SPECIAL LANDFORMS
 Mount Rainier's most famous land form is most likely Mount
Rainier its self because it is what the park was named after.
There are many glaciers landforms on it as well. It was formed
more than half a million years ago, due to a base built by the
lava of other volcanoes. Mount Rainier is a volcano (last erupted
in about 1890s ) but some past eruptions have caused layer after
layer of lava and some rubble.
HOW IS TECHNOLOGY USED TO
MAINTAIN THE PARK?
 Technology is used because when there may be volcanic activity
sensors in the park can warn the of the activity so people can
make sure the park and the people in it will stay safe. Some
similar censors also can detect when earthquakes will occur. But
these sensors are not always accurate because you can never tell
when a volcano or earthquake is coming.
TYPES OF ROCKS IN THE PARK
 Most of the rocks found in the park are volcanic debris.
Especially considering that Mount Rainier is a volcano so
the main types of rocks found around the park are igneous
rocks. Some more specific rocks found are sandstone,
basalt, and mudstone.
